In the Lower School, Art is taught in line with the Units of Inquiry.

The concepts explored through students’ art making are connected to those of each UOI. Through a variety of directed projects and assignments, students develop an understanding of the Formal Elements of Art and Principles of Design and explore their own creativity as well as the styles and techniques of artists from a range of backgrounds and cultures.

  1. For UOI in Art class Grade 1 will explore representing their communities and the connections and relationships between people.

  2. For this unit, Grade 2 students will create an abstract piece inspired by maps.

  3. In Grade 3 we will look at the work of Shepard Fairey and create portraits of role models in the style of the artist's stencil portraits.

  4. In Grade 4, students will create a self-portrait using stylised symbols and imagery to represent aspects of their personalities and beliefs.

  5. For this UOI in Grade 5, students are creating cooperative artworks using pattern and a variety of media.
